"Collection – Reportages," the new magazine from TV5Monde

The Francophonie channel presents its new monthly news program, "Collection – Reportages."

This magazine highlights stories, documents, profiles, and investigations. These reports will shed light on major global issues and challenges, such as the environment, conflicts, the fight against discrimination and poverty, and more.

First episode – "In the Name of the Ancestors' Anger"

Broadcast in two parts (2×14') Saturday, January 18, and Sunday, January 19, on Journal Afrique at 8:30 p.m. (Dakar time) – 9:30 p.m. (Yaoundé time)

The first report in this collection is devoted to the Cameroonian conjoined twins Bissie and Eyenga, who underwent surgery on November 13 in Lyon. Conjoined at the abdomen and liver, they were born in Ayos, in central Cameroon. Thanks to the support of the NGO La Chaîne de l'Espoir and the Cameroonian government, the girls were separated at the end of last year. This was a first for the Hospices Civils de Lyon, one of the largest pediatric hospitals in France. Beyond this medical feat, their story tells of the rejection of conjoined twins in certain countries. In Cameroon, giving birth to conjoined twins is considered a curse. Such births are seen as an expression of the ancestors' anger. Between Lyon, Ayos, and Yaoundé, this first major report lifts the taboo on these children who are victims of a "freak of nature."
