After being stripped of the organization of the last CAN 2019, Cameroon will host the next African Cup of Nations 2021, from January 9 to February 6, 2022.
Following a meeting in Yaoundé on January 15, the Confederation of African Football and the Cameroonian authorities announced a change in the schedule for the next competition. The date has been postponed to January 2022, instead of June/July, for meteorological reasons.
It should be noted that Cameroon was initially chosen to host the last AFCON in 2019, which took place in Egypt. After deliberation, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided to withdraw the organization of the competition from the country. A series of inspection missions carried out in Cameroon revealed numerous delays in the construction of the infrastructure planned to host the major tournament.
