Call for films for FESPACO 2025

As part of the 29th edition of FESPACO 2025, which will take place from February 22 to March 1, 2025, the organization is launching its call for films aimed at film and audiovisual professionals and specifies that registrations for the official selection of films are open from February 29 to September 30, 2024.

In 2025, FESPACO will focus on the theme "African cinema and cultural identities." 

And the Republic of Chad will be the guest of honor.

The official competition reserved for films by African directors and those from the diaspora includes the following categories: 

  • feature-length fiction film over 60 minutes long;
  • feature-length documentary: over 60 minutes;
  • FESPACO Shorts (fiction and documentary short films): duration between 1 minute and 35 minutes;
  • fiction or documentary from film schools: 3-15 min 
  • FESPACO Series: 2 consecutive episodes of 52 minutes each, or 3 consecutive episodes of 26 minutes each, or 6 consecutive episodes of 13 minutes each. 
  • animated films: duration between 1 minute and 35 minutes.

The non-competitive section open to films by filmmakers from around the world:

  • Panorama
  • Focus on diversity
  • Sukabè (youth program)

Reminder of eligibility criteria

  • Be no more than two (02) years old as of December 31, 2024;
  • Not having been presented at a previous edition of FESPACO;
  • Not having been deployed to Burkina Faso.

For the first time, registrations are subject to a registration fee of 32,500 CFA francs, or 50 euros.

It should be noted that in 2023, 1,142 films from 55 countries were submitted, and ultimately 170 films were selected for the various competitions.
