TV5MONDE is broadcasting season 2 of "Afropolitaine," a comedy web series highlighting Afro-French culture. Starting March 31, two episodes will be available on TV5MONDE Afrique's digital platform, followed by a new episode every Wednesday and Friday.
The episodes will also be available in June on the free French-language platform TV5MONDEplus.
The plot of this series revolves around Yvoire and his younger sister, Janis. One struggles to navigate between her dual cultures, while the other is a seasoned Afro-feminist. Their differences of opinion regularly lead to arguments that annoy their mother, "Tantie Thérèse," who runs an Afro hair salon. Afropolitaine takes place in the West African community of Paris's 18th arrondissement. It truly shines a spotlight on Paris's "Little Africa."
Season 2 continues to explore France's diversity by celebrating its creators and thinkers through a fashion week in Barbès, the filming of a music video, and a conference organized by activists from La Goutte d'Or. These different events highlight emblematic figures from the Afro-descendant sphere who embody their own roles: Vincent Mac Doom, Amou Tati (comedian), Aïssé Ndiaye (Afrikanista designer), Erwin Talla Waffo Yvon (influencer), and others.
Season 1, broadcast on TV5MONDE's digital Africa channel, reached a wide audience and won two awards at the Luchon TV Festival last February: the award for best short program and the female rising star award for Manda Touré and Tracy Gotoas.
