Africascope RADIO 2021/2022: RFI ranks in the TOP 3 in 6 out of 8 countries

Kantar has just published the results of the Africascope study for 2021/2022. This study covers the capitals of eight countries: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Gabon, Mali, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, and Senegal.

The interviews were conducted face-to-face on tablets with a total sample of 15,300 people, representative of the population aged 15 and over in the survey area, i.e., more than 20.7 million individuals aged 15 and over.

This wave, which averages the results of the second half of 2021 and the first half of 2022, shows great stability compared to the measurements for the whole of 2021.

In 2021-2022, 59.1% of individuals aged 15 and over listened to the radio every day, representing 12.2 million daily listeners. They spent an average of 2 hours and 5 minutes per day listening to the radio. This is slightly less than in 2021 as a whole.

There are significant variations from one country to another, both in terms of cumulative audience and listening time.

Mali, which has the lowest TV consumption, has above-average radio consumption (84% cumulative audience and 2 hours and 21 minutes of listening time).

At the same time, Cameroon has the lowest cumulative audience (41%), even though it is the country with the highest TV listening time.

Listening time varies by a factor of two: 2 hours and 48 minutes in Senegal (2 hours and 51 minutes) compared to just 1 hour and 21 minutes in Gabon.

In radio, local stations occupy the top three spots, with the exception of the pan-African radio station RFI, which is in the top three in Burkina Faso, the DRC, Congo, Ivory Coast, Gabon, and Cameroon.
