6 million subscribers for CANAL+ in Africa

According to the financial report published a few days ago by the Vivendi Group, CANAL+ had a total of 5.983 million subscribers in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa at the end of December 2020.

In terms of recruitment, CANAL+ exceeded the symbolic milestone of more than 1 million additional subscribers in one year (1.084 million subscribers to be precise).. This exceptional performance, achieved during a health crisis, is likely to be repeated in 2021, which is a particularly rich year for sports (CHAN in January/February, Euro soccer in June/July, and the Olympic Games in July/August).

It should also be noted that CANAL+ has significantly increased its investment in African fiction by multiplying ambitious series projects.

With these two central editorial pillars (sports and fiction), CANAL+ has all the weapons it needs to continue its growth in this market, which remains relatively uncompetitive.

For the record, a few months ago CANAL+ acquired a 12% minority stake in Multichoice, the leader in pay TV in English-speaking Africa.
