This year, the award categories will be as follows:

  • Fact check of the year by a working journalist
  • Fact-check of the year by a journalism student

Entries will be evaluated by a jury based on the following criteria:

  • The importance to society at large of the statement being verified
  • How the statement was tested against the available evidence
  • The extent to which the article presented evidence for and against the statement
  • The impact of the article's publication on public debate.

This new edition aims to reward initiatives on the continent to combat disinformation and support the "fourth estate" attributed to the press.

The call for applications closes on June 30.
