CFI supports African media in the fight against fake news

A subsidiary of France Médias Monde, Canal France International (CFI) works to promote the development of media in the Global South. As part of its Vérifox Afrique project, created to curb the spread of fake news on the continent, CFI has launched a call for applications to select 15 African media outlets that will be trained to play their role as guarantors of the right to access reliable, independent, and verified information in the pre-election period.

The project targets information providers operating in Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Benin, three countries that will soon be holding presidential elections. Eligible media outlets may be radio, TV, print, or online.

CFI will offer support based on three activities:

  • Improving consultation between information sector actors
  • Training journalists to cover presidential elections and combat fake news
  • Remote support for journalists in the fight against fake news

The call for applications will close on September 25.
