FESPACO and Ciné Guimbi sign a partnership agreement

Beyond the renovation of Ciné Guimbi, the Association de Soutien du Cinéma au Burkina Faso (Association for the Support of Cinema in Burkina Faso), which is in charge of the project, has signed a partnership agreement with FESPACO.

Since 2013, FESPACO has been supporting the renovation project for Ciné Guimbi, a legendary cinema located in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, thereby giving the project high visibility. Ciné Guimbi, which is currently undergoing renovation, was designated as the host venue for FESPACO 2019 and as the screening venue for films related to the festival.

On January 27, Ciné Guimbi chose to formalize FESPACO's commitment and support by signing a comprehensive partnership agreement. The purpose of this agreement is to define common objectives and a framework for collaboration between the two entities for the promotion and distribution of African cinema. The future theater will host events throughout the year organized in conjunction with the major pan-African festival dedicated to the seventh art.

It should be noted that the reopening of Ciné Guimbi to the public has been postponed. Due to administrative delays and delays in construction, the opening of this iconic theater, initially scheduled for November 21, has been postponed to the first half of 2020.

The public should therefore soon be able to reconnect with the art of cinema in the cultural city of Bobo-Dioulasso thanks to this mini-plex designed around two movie theaters (174 seats and 324 seats) as well as a cultural hub hosting activities related to film education and training in the cinema professions.
