Médiamétrie has just published the results of its survey conducted in the second half of 2019 in DAKAR
More than 8 out of 10 residents (81.3%) of Greater Dakar watched television every day (Monday-Sunday) and spent an average of 3 hours and 55 minutes watching TV daily.
During the observation period, Senegalese television channels achieved an audience share of 51.3%.
TFM attracted the largest number of viewers on a daily basis, ahead of Novelas TV and SEN TV.
Over the same period, more than two-thirds of Greater Dakar residents (66.1%) listened to the radio for an average of 3 hours and 46 minutes per day (Monday-Friday).
ZIK FM and RFM are the most listened to stations in Senegal, accounting for nearly three-quarters of the radio audience (72.6%), ahead of SUD FM, LAMP FALL FM, and RFI.
More than 8 out of 10 people (80.9%) own a smartphone.
70.8% of those surveyed used the internet every day, which is just over 11 points more than in 2018.
Social media use is also on the rise: 66% of individuals are registered on at least one social network, up 3.1 points from 2018; Facebook still leads the way, followed by Google+, Instagram, and Twitter.
The study was conducted by Médiamétrie and its field partner Omedia in the four municipalities that make up Greater Dakar. The surveys were conducted face-to-face in three waves of 16 days each, between September 29 and December 2, 2019, among 1,447 people aged 15 and over who are representative of the population living in Dakar.
