Orange teams up with Google to promote digital inclusion

According to estimates, there are 660 million people on the continent with smartphones. The future of digital technology on the African continent looks promising, even if the price of data and low internet coverage remain real challenges.

Telecom operators are taking steps to make smartphones increasingly accessible on African markets. This is the case with Orange, which has a strong presence on the continent and, a few years after launching its first Sanza smartphone for 3G, is back with the Sanza Touch 4G. This time, Orange is teaming up with web giant Google to democratize the use of low-cost smartphones (€25.50) on the continent and promote digital inclusion.

According to the operator, the average cost of an entry-level smartphone in Africa still exceeds 60% of the average monthly income, making them inaccessible on the market. For the time being, this new range has been launched in 13 countries in Africa and the Middle East, and since October in Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, and Madagascar.
