Death of Bechir Ben Yahmed, founder of Jeune Afrique

Bechir Ben Yahmed, founder of Jeune Afrique magazine in Tunisia in 1960, died on Monday, May 3, from COVID at the age of 93.

Born in Djerba in 1928, Bechir Ben Yahmed launched Afrique Action in 1960, which became Jeune Afrique a few months later.

Founded to support the emergence of countries that gained independence in the 1960s, Jeune Afrique has stood the test of time and accompanied all the events that have shaped the history of the African continent.

The Jeune Afrique Group, which was formed under the leadership of Béchir Ben Yahmed, is now a major player in the fields of publishing, audiovisual production, and the organization of international events on Africa.

Twenty years ago, he entrusted the management of his empire to his two sons, Amir and Marwane, as well as to the editorial director, François Soudan.
