Africascope 2021: RFI and France 24 watched by more than half of the population in French-speaking Africa

RFI and France 24 confirm their success in French-speaking African countries and their leading positions in terms of brand awareness and audience ratings, according to the results of the "Africascope September 2020-June 2021"* study conducted by Kantar-TNS in eight countries: Côte d'Ivoire (Abidjan), Senegal (Dakar), Mali (Bamako), Burkina Faso (Ouagadougou), DRC (Kinshasa), Gabon (Libreville), Cameroon (Douala and Yaoundé) and Congo-Brazzaville (Brazzaville).

In these eight countries, more than one in two inhabitants say they follow at least one of the two media outlets every week, representing more than 11 million individuals who are loyal to France Médias Monde channels (+4.1%). In addition, their brand awareness remains high (92% of the population say they are familiar with RFI or France 24). The digital results of RFI and France 24 complement the success of the two media outlets in French-speaking Africa. With 6.2 million monthly visits** to their digital environments in the first half of 2021 and continuously growing communities on social media with a high engagement rate, RFI and France 24 are consolidating their status as the leading connected news providers in the region.

As the leading international radio station in French-speaking Africa, RFI also remains in the Top 5 most listened to radio stations every day in the eight countries surveyed (all radio stations combined). Across all nine capitals, the world's radio station is listened to every week by 37% of the population (+0.9 pts) and more than 68% of executives and managers. Eighty-two percent of residents (+0.2 pts) and 99% (+0.3 pts) of executives and managers say they are familiar with it. RFI remains the most listened-to radio station by this target audience in most capitals. With an average of 4 million visits per month to its digital platforms in the first half of 2021, RFI confirms its success across all media in the region.

France 24 has consolidated its status as the leading international news channel, across all target audiences, in French-speaking Africa. The channel is among the 10 most watched channels daily (all genres combined) by the entire population in most capitals, and in the Top 5 by executives and managers everywhere. In the nine capitals, 43.4% of residents watch France 24 every week (+0.6 points). 83% say they are familiar with the channel, including 99% of executives and managers. In the first half of 2021, France 24's digital environments continued to grow among connected audiences, with an average of 2.2 million monthly visits from French-speaking Africa.
