JUMIA aims to democratize access to digital technology on the continent

Encouraging the digitization of the African continent is one of the major challenges that remain to be addressed in the coming years. And the global COVID-19 pandemic has repeatedly demonstrated the importance of internet access in Africa, as in the rest of the world.

In line with this trend, Jumia, the leader in African e-commerce, is joining forces with UNICEF to connect and digitize African schools. The partnership signed between the two players aims to support the development of the GIGA project.

Launched in 2019, GIGA aims to connect all African schools to the internet to give children in the most remote areas access to information and the digital world.

As part of this collaboration, Jumia intends to share anonymous data to help map schools across the continent, which will also reveal information about connectivity demand in different areas.
