As it does every year, the Vivendi group presented its results for the first half of the current year at the end of July, providing some insight into the development of CANAL+ in Africa.
Overall, CANAL+'s total revenue amounted to €2.87 billion for the first six months of 2022, up 3.3% compared to the first half of 2021.
In French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa, Canal+ Afrique continues its steady growth, reaching 6,561,000 subscribers as of June 30, 2022.
This represents an increase of 609,000 subscribers compared to the first half of 2021. This is less than the increase achieved in the first half of 2021 compared to 2020 (+989,000 subscribers), but it remains a remarkable performance.
The threshold of 7 million individual subscribers could be reached by the end of the year, even though CANAL+ does not currently hold the rights to the next FIFA World Cup, which will take place from November 20 to December 18, traditionally a period of very strong subscription growth.
In addition, CANAL+ continued its growth in Multichoice in the first half of 2022, now owning 18.44% of the company.
