Celtiis: Benin welcomes a new telephone operator

Set up by the local government and Sbin SA (Beninese digital infrastructure company), Celtiis is officially the new telephone operator launched in Benin on October 21. The latest addition is the result of South-South cooperation between Benin and Senegal through a partnership with the Sonatel Group, which is already present in five West African countries.

It is the third operator to enter the Beninese mobile phone market, alongside long-standing players such as Moov and MTN. This new global network now covers nearly 80% of the Beninese population thanks to strategies designed for mobile phones, mobile money, and businesses.

At the national level, Celtiis is an illustration of the two reforms proposed by the Beninese government, namely: boosting investment in the digital sector and facilitating the emergence of new players on the market. According to the official press release announcing the launch of Celtiis: "The entry of the new operator Celtiis Benin is in line with our ambition, the government's ambition to boost the provision of electronic communications services to households, businesses, and public administrations for the benefit of consumers of electronic communications services."
