Guinea: National Information and Communication Professions Week will be held from May 23 to 27, 2023

The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC), in collaboration with all information and communication stakeholders, including professional media organizations, communication agencies, and advertising agencies in the Republic of Guinea, is organizing Information and Communication Careers Week (SENAMIC).

This celebration will revolve around World Press Freedom Day (WPFD), celebrated on May 3 each year, under the theme chosen by UNESCO for 2023: "Shaping a future of rights: Freedom of expression as the driver of all other human rights."

The choice of this theme is a call to centralize and reaffirm freedom of expression, a necessary condition for enjoying all other human rights. In addition, this year's celebration coincides with the 30th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly's decision to proclaim an international day for press freedom.

The day of May 3 is organized with the aim of calling on leaders to recognize the importance of safeguarding press freedom. The occasion will be used to sign the Collective Agreement for Journalists and Technicians of the Private Press in Guinea and to make proposals for amendments to Law LO002 on Freedom of the Press in the Republic of Guinea.

At the local level, the 30th anniversary of World Press Freedom Day will be celebrated through a series of activities organized by the Regional Directorates of Information and Communication in Kankan, Labé, Kindia, and Nzérékoré.

Internationally, the managing directors of West African daily newspapers and members of the Union of African Free Press Journalists (UJPLA) will be in Conakry and elsewhere in the country to lead conferences. The overall objective of this celebration is to raise awareness among decision-makers, media professionals, and citizens about the value and importance of the press.

The specific objectives of SENAMIC are:

Organize an inter-university journalism competition;

Organize three round tables on:

A. "The exercise of press freedom in times of transition";
