This forum is organized under the auspices of the Ministry of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, and the Diaspora of Côte d'Ivoire, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Côte d'Ivoire (CCI-CI), as well as the Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions of Côte d'Ivoire (APBEF-CI) and promoted by PKD Conseil.
The Repats Forum aims to encourage new cooperation between Côte d'Ivoire and countries in the South, particularly in Asia.
The Forum also aims to encourage the African diaspora to return to their "motherland" (Repats).
Finally, the Forum enables African SMEs/SMIs to connect with all these different players in order to access alternative financing.
MAKING THE DIASPORA THE MAIN SOURCE OF FINANCING FOR THE CONTINENT
In 2019, remittances from African migrants to their families exceeded development aid and foreign business investment. These flows have increased by 50% since 2010.
Not to mention informal transfers, which are by definition more difficult to measure but could represent between 35% and 75% of recorded flows, according to the World Bank. The African diaspora can truly be considered a source of development and financing for income-generating activities on the continent.
Many have tried to set up businesses in Africa, but unfortunately the dream was short-lived: poor management and embezzlement of funds by close family members, lack of monitoring due to distance, investments in less profitable sectors, lack of financing.
In 2023, the partner country will be Indonesia.
