Freedom for the seven African series projects selected for the Clap ACP2 program

"As producers and directors, we want to do our part to help build a thriving industry, particularly in Senegal, thanks to TV series and cinema. There is a need to create more content for television channels, movie theaters, and video-on-demand platforms," said Toumani Sangaré, director, producer, and head of the Kourtrajmé Dakar school, in a recent interview with Adweknow.

With this in mind, the film school is stepping up its efforts to support talented individuals from across Africa and facilitate their entry into the audiovisual industry. A few months ago, the Senegal-based film school joined forces with the OIF and the Dakar Series Festival to launch a major competition for series projects, "Liberté série," with the company Paper to Film. The goal? To bring to light new projects, currently in the writing stage, with or without a producer, that have not yet attracted the interest of a broadcaster.

A total of 119 candidates from 13 countries submitted their applications. After review by the jury, seven projects were selected. The winners will be invited to participate in a writing residency in Dakar.

Here are the 7 selected projects:

  • Afronautes, fiction series (8 x 52’) by Fidèle KOFFI (Ivory Coast)
  • La repat, fiction series (8 x 30’) by Tiah BEYE (Senegal)
  • Evou, the cardinal energy, animated series (13 x 26’) by Emery NOUDJIEP TCHEMDJO (Cameroon). Co-author: Yannick DEUBOU SIKOUE (Cameroon)
  • Burr Flamingo, fiction series (6 x 52’) by Tristan Delafosse (Ivory Coast). Co-author: Brice Massée (France).
  • The Baroness, fiction series (format not specified) by Diane BAJIKA (Democratic Republic of Congo)
  • Psychosis, fiction series (10 x 30’) by Peter AYIVOR (Senegal). Co-writers: Fama SOW and Amadou BA (Senegal).
  • Aube de femmes, fiction series (26 x 26’) by Jacques KOLIE (Guinea)

Let's hope to see these projects on screen soon!
