CANAL+ surpasses 7 million subscribers in Africa

During the summer, Vivendi published its operating results for the first half of 2023.

  • 3.7% increase in revenue in the first half of 2023, thanks to the performance of Canal+ Group, Havas, and Gameloft,
  • 7.7% growth in adjusted operating income (EBITA) driven by Havas, Canal+ Group, and Lagardère's contribution
  • Adjusted net income rose sharply to €324 million, compared with €58 million in the first half of 2022.

The report also details changes in CANAL+ Group's revenue and subscriber numbers in French-speaking Africa.

In the first half of 2023, CANAL+ Group's total revenue across all activities amounted to €2,959 million (up 3%), and the group gained a total of 1,082,000 subscribers.

In Africa, CANAL+ gained more than 500,000 subscribers compared to the first half of 2022 (up 7.9%) and now has more than 7 million subscribers.

Africa continues its dynamic growth, accounting for half of the increase in subscribers, even though it represents only 28% of the total number of CANAL+ group subscribers.

Furthermore, Vivendi's report notes that Canal+ Group, which has steadily increased its stake in MultiChoice in recent years, held 32.60% of the South African company's capital as of June 30, 2023.
