The Ministry of Digital Technology and Digitalization is launching a call for projects to promote the production of high-quality audiovisual content in Benin. The call aims to boost the production of innovative content and its broadcast on the country's public television and radio channels, while highlighting Benin's cultures, traditions, and topics of interest to the local population.
According to the Ministry: "Projects eligible for this call for proposals will be those whose themes are in line with promoting our heritage, innovatively demonstrating our lifestyles, and therefore development through image."
The financing of African audiovisual productions is also the responsibility of public authorities, without whom the development of the sector remains compromised. Some countries, such as Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, and Senegal, have understood the importance of supporting the development of cultural industries, but everything is still in its infancy. Others will follow, just as co-production agreements are being established between French-speaking African countries.
In a 2021 report, UNESCO estimates that African cinema could create 20 million jobs and generate $20 billion per year… Local institutions must seize this opportunity to boost the local economy and job creation.
