According to a recent press release, the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA) in Côte d'Ivoire brought together representatives from the CANAL+ group, the National Union of Telecommunications Companies (UNETEL), and Internet service providers to discuss and identify concrete solutions to combat piracy of audiovisual content.
This meeting led to the presentation of an "innovative" solution by the CANAL+ group, enabling the dynamic blocking of illegal IP addresses. More specifically, this solution would enable the implementation of a system for dynamically cutting links to pirated content on the web, thereby countering the distribution of pirated content via IPTV.
According to HACA President René Bourgoin: "Faced with a constantly evolving digital environment and the malicious ingenuity of audiovisual content pirates, we believe it is imperative that we work together to develop innovative mechanisms to protect the rights of owners or rights holders of this audiovisual content […] It is worth remembering that the survival of this sector depends entirely on the success of this activity in order to curb the development of illegal sites accessible via IPTV or any other means via the Internet, which could lead to deregulation of the sector…"
