10 finalists in the running for the 2023 RFI Talents du Rire award

The names of the ten comedians competing for the 2023 RFI Talents du Rire award have been announced.

Initiated by comedian Mamane, a columnist* on international radio stations, in collaboration with RFI and Gondwana-City Productions, this award reveals new comedy talent every year and rewards a young French-speaking artist from Africa, the Indian Ocean, and the Caribbean.

The competition is open to all comedians residing in countries in Africa, the Indian Ocean, and the Caribbean.

In 2022, the jury awarded Cameroonian comedian Stephan Dipita at the "Abidjan Capitale du rire" festival in Ivory Coast.

Born in 1994 in Cameroon, in a small town on the outskirts of Douala, the economic capital, the young comedian produced his first one-man show, Mon ami virtuel (My Virtual Friend), at the age of just 23. The show was designed to question human relationships in the age of social media. In 2021, he also presented a more mature and accomplished show, How, which reveals an interesting modernity: digital technology, ecology, education, insecurity, and the status of African women are just some of the themes he tackles with great observational finesse. After appearing in 2022 on the pan-African show Le Parlement du Rire broadcast on Canal+, he joined the ranks of young talents to watch.
