CAN 2024: over 5,000 media accreditation requests registered

With just a few weeks to go before the kickoff of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that it has received a record number of accreditation requests from the media for the soccer competition.

More than 5,000 accreditation requests have been registered, with over 70 nationalities represented to cover the event. To ensure the proper management of these requests, the CAF has decided to implement quotas for all countries:

  • Host country: 30%
  • Participating countries: 35%
  • Regional countries (neighbors): 10%
  • Rest of the world (countries): 25%

According to the official statement, "CAF is currently working closely with all participating member associations to ensure fair representation in the allocation of quotas for each country. Priority is also given to agencies."

Remember that this year's major sporting event will take place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, from January 13 to February 11.

Senegal, the defending champion, will face Cameroon, Guinea, and Gambia in Group C, which was dubbed the "group of death" during the draw. Ivory Coast has been designated as the host of the event for the second time in its history, following the 1984 edition, which was marked by Cameroon's victory. The national team will face Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
