The development of the internet is accelerating and represents real potential on the African continent. With the pandemic, digital technology has continued to gain ground in the communications sector. Digitalization was a necessity before the COVID crisis, and it is even more so now. In Côte d'Ivoire in particular, the population has seen a major transformation in the digital sector over the last decade: expansion of 4G networks, deployment of fiber optics, and democratization of Internet access… These are significant developments that ARTCI has chosen to highlight in ten key figures. Nationwide, there are:
- 52 million mobile network subscriptions, representing a penetration rate
of 168%; - 28 million mobile Internet subscriptions, representing a penetration rate of 91%;
- 9.4 million Internet users, or 35% of people aged 5 and over;
- 1.2 trillion CFA francs in total revenue;
- 2 million people regularly shop online, representing 8% of the population who use e-commerce;
- 98% theoretical coverage rate of the population in 2G networks;
- July 19, 2023: launch of the cartographic observatory for telecommunications network data
- 97% theoretical coverage rate of the population in 3G networks;
- 91% theoretical coverage rate of the population in 4G networks;
- 85% mobile internet penetration rate with 26 million SIM cards used for internet connection
- 82% mobile money penetration rate with 25 million users
Finally, when we look at mobile Internet market share, three mobile operators are competing: MTN CI (40% market share), Orange CI (39%), and Moov Africa CI (21%).
