Jointly developed by SDJ and TV5MONDE, this text aims to provide a framework for the rules of editorial independence and professional ethics already established within TV5MONDE's news department and already contained in the TV5 Intergovernmental Charter, the Company Agreement, the Editorial Charter, and the Charter on Artificial Intelligence and Information.
This charter also guarantees compliance with the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI), an international certification launched in May 2021 by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), with the support of the European Commission, Agence France Presse (AFP), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It is designed as an ISO standard and developed under the auspices of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).
The recently adopted European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), which strengthens the right to reliable information, specifically targets JTI certification as a means for major platforms to identify media outlets that meet requirements for editorial independence, methodology, ethical standards, and transparency. Among TV5MONDE's partner channels, France Télévisions, France Médias Monde, and Radio Canada currently hold JTI certification.
