The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has just launched the tender process for the TV rights to the 2025 and 2029 Club World Cups for Africa and Europe.
This tender process is taking place in sub-Saharan Africa against a backdrop of new competition with the arrival of New World TV, which has won the main recent sports tenders, and the long-standing broadcasters Canal+ and MultiChoice, which are in the process of finalizing their capital merger.
Remember that this global event, which will take place every four years, will feature 32 teams from among the best clubs in each of the six international confederations.
It will be played for the first time from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the United States and will feature 48 matches during the group stage (8 groups of 4 teams) and 15 knockout matches for the final stage.
Four African teams have been selected for this event.
El Ahly (EGYPT) –
Wydad (MOROCCO) –
Espérance Sportive de Tunis (TUNISIA) –
Mamelodi Sundowns (SOUTH AFRICA)
Beyond the four African teams, none of which are from French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa, the 12 European teams that qualified include many players from French-speaking Africa, making this competition more appealing to African viewers than the usual European competitions involving nations (Euro or Nations Cup).
Media outlets wishing to participate in the call for tenders (ITT) can send an email to FCWC-media-rights@fifa.org.
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. CEST.
