Romantic Series in Africa: 10 Years of Continued Success

Launched in 2015 by the CANAL+ group, NOVELAS TV is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

This channel concept, launched almost simultaneously by Nina Novelas, the channel produced by Côte Ouest Audiovisuel and NOVELAS TV ten years ago, was subsequently emulated with the launch of numerous channels offering similar programming or devoting a large part of their programming to romantic series, regardless of the program's origin (Brazil, but also Mozambique, Nigeria, Turkey, India, etc.).

So after 2015, we saw the birth of Nollywood TV, Afro-Novelas, Passion Novelas, A+ and A+ Ivoire, and even Zee Magic, which specializes in Bollywood series.

Nevertheless, NOVELAS TV stands out from other telenovela channels in French-speaking Africa:

  • It offers programming dedicated entirely to telenovelas from the world's leading producers of the genre, such as Telemundo, Televisa, Globo, and TV Azteca.

NOVELAS TV focuses primarily on Latin American productions, some of whose actors are very well known in Africa.

  • The channel is number one in terms of audience share in French-speaking Africa across numerous target groups, particularly women and 15-34 year olds in all countries surveyed by AFRICASCOPE, with an average audience share of 13% (source: CANAL+ ADVERTISING/Africascope Sept. 2022/June 2023, cumulative data for eight countries).
  • The themes addressed (love, betrayal, family conflicts) resonate particularly with African audiences, offering a combination of entertainment and stories that are close to local social realities despite their Latin American or Turkish origins.
  • NOVELAS TV has the widest distribution via the Canal+ package, which has more than 8 million subscribers in French-speaking Africa.

To mark its anniversary month, NOVELAS TV is offering a special lineup combining new releases and cult series.
