FESPACO 2025: CANAL+ First Partner of African Cinema

On the occasion of the 29th edition of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO), which will take place from February 22 to March 1, 2025, CANAL+ is once again highlighting the vitality of African cinema and the richness of its stories.

CANAL+, the leading partner of African cinema, is proud to announce that 27 films, series, and documentaries produced, pre-purchased, or acquired by the channel have been selected for the official lineup of FESPACO 2025.

A strong commitment to the production and distribution of African cinema

This ambitious and eclectic selection illustrates CANAL+'s commitment to promoting and strengthening African cinema:

  • 14 nominations in the feature film and documentary category co-produced by CANAL+, including Banel et Adama (Senegal), Demba (Senegal), Goodbye Julia (Sudan), and Augure (Democratic Republic of Congo), four films that have already attracted international attention.
  • 13 films and series in competition or selection, pre-purchased or purchased by the CANAL+ group (including two for broadcast in France) and the three films Lees Waxul, Les Yeux de Mabil (Senegal) and Hanami (Cape Verde), which illustrate the support for young talent.

It should also be noted that the film Ni Chaînes ni Maîtres, pre-purchased by CANAL+, was co-produced and distributed by STUDIOCANAL—a leading film and television studio with global production and distribution capabilities and a subsidiary of CANAL+—with more than 430,000 admissions in French cinemas.

Two CANAL+ ORIGINAL series, Niabla and Or Blanc (Ivory Coast), and one pre-purchase, Bienvenue à Kikidéni (Burkina Faso), underscore the group's ambition in the series format.

Special FESPACO programming on CANAL+

From February 22 to March 1, 2025, a selection of award-winning films from FESPACO 2023 will be broadcast every evening at 8:30 p.m. on CANAL+ CINEMA in Africa, and some of them will also be available on the CANAL+ platform in France.

By getting involved at every stage, from creation to distribution, CANAL+ confirms its key role in promoting African cinema.
