Official launch of Faso Films Fonds: A new impetus for Burkinabe cinema

The official launch of the Faso Film Fund will take place on October 8, 2025.

On this occasion, a call for projects will be launched to enable Burkinabe filmmakers, producers, and audiovisual project leaders to submit their applications and receive funding.

It should be noted that the Faso Film Fund is a public financing fund dedicated to Burkinabe film and audiovisual projects, created in 2024 as part of the restructuring of the film and audiovisual sector in Burkina Faso.

In 2024, the Burkinabe government created the Burkinabe Agency for Cinematography and Audiovisual Media (ABCA), which resulted from the merger of several key entities such as FESPACO, the Higher Institute of Image and Sound (ISIS-SE), and other structures in the sector.

The main objective is to make Burkinabe cinema more competitive internationally and to structure the local film industry in a sustainable manner.

The establishment of the Faso Film Fund within the ABCA aims to become a sustainable and autonomous lever for supporting local audiovisual and film production, with an economic model designed to ensure its long-term viability. Burkina Faso thus joins the handful of African countries that have already set up funds to support their film and audiovisual industries, such as Senegal (FOPICA), Côte d'Ivoire (Fonsic), Togo (FNDC), and Benin (FDAC), which have established funds to support the entire cultural industry.
