Interview with Michel Mutumbo Cartier, Managing Director of A+ Ivoire

You have just outlined the main features of the new season at A+ Ivoire. What are the main new developments?

First of all, we are pleased to say that we remain the leading Ivorian channel and that our audience figures are strong. We are not looking to revolutionize the schedule, but to consolidate what we do well, while introducing a few new features and relaunching our flagship series.

So, what are these hit series that are returning to the screen?

We have had several notable responses. First, "220 Logements," the second part of which has been airing since October 7. Technically, it is the direct sequel to the first season, filmed in one go, but we divided it up to better pace the programming.

And then, we will have the eagerly awaited return of "Charles Ornel." Season 2 will be broadcast starting November 3. The first season was a huge success. This new series will consist of 48 episodes, each 26 minutes long, still full of suspense and twists and turns.

Finally, "Les Nounous" will also be returning: during the Africa Cup of Nations, we will be re-airing season 1, and right after that, in February, season 2 will begin, with the same cast, enriched with a few new faces.

And in terms of emissions, what is changing?

We remain strong in our afternoon and early evening slots. The program "On se dit les Gbê" continues at 2 p.m., followed by our in-house dramas.
At 7:30 p.m., "C' DJINZIN" has found its audience. It's a program where guests come to settle their personal disputes on set—family conflicts, relationship issues, or money problems. The host, Nel Jamila, acts as a mediator. At the end of the program, the participants decide whether to leave together or apart. The format is powerful: 26 minutes to understand and resolve a problem. As a result, we have doubled our audience in this highly competitive time slot.

On Sundays, "Dimanche Garba" with comedian Joël also continues. The show, broadcast at 5:30 p.m., has established itself as a must-see family event. It will soon begin its third season.

And what about discovery programs?

In "Come to My Home," our globetrotter Christy Legend continues her travels and encounters in the heart of Côte d'Ivoire, with its fantastic scenery and towns and villages overflowing with hospitality and joie de vivre. Fifty-two minutes to appreciate Côte d'Ivoire at its most beautiful.

We are also preparing a new program to discover Côte d'Ivoire, or rather rediscover it. It will be a 52-minute program broadcast on weekends, in which anonymous people—often couples—will set off to explore a region. The idea is to make viewers think, "I'd like to be in their shoes."
The program will air right after the African Cup of Nations in early 2026.

You mentioned audience figures earlier. Will you be presenting the figures?

For the first time, official ratings certified by the ACA will be made public. This is an important step for us, as it validates the work we have done and the loyalty of our Ivorian audience.

On the production side, how is your strategy structured today?

We have made a lot of progress in terms of planning. Before, we would wait to see if a series was successful before considering a second season. Now, halfway through the broadcast, if the signs are good, we immediately start writing and producing the sequel.

We also want to strengthen African collaborations. We have already produced La Bataille des Chéries in Cameroon and Le Piège in Senegal, both of which were successful. We want to encourage the movement of talent: Senegalese actors will be able to film in Côte d'Ivoire, and vice versa. This is already the case with our partners at Marodi, who have included Ivorian actors in their productions.

The start of the 2026 school year is looking good…

We are approaching this new season with confidence and enthusiasm. Our goal is to continue telling powerful Ivorian stories rooted in social reality, while developing pan-African collaborations. Above all, we want to stay close to our audience, who are the reason for our success.
